Why? 

It had been a very long time since I was making art for myself. I’ve been photographing weddings and portraits since I graduated from college. After school I even sold my beloved medium format film camera to buy my first digital camera to shoot weddings. I learned how to be good at photographing people for their needs. I really love it... only problem is that I was creating art for others and neglecting my need to create art for myself. Covid changed that for me. I suddenly found what I was missing in my photography. Creating photographs that represented my experience with the world in nature.

I have such a strong desire to go outside and create images that reflect the natural world that I see through the lens. The smallest blades of grass, the expansive landscapes that still exist, and the fluffy clouds hung in a million unique ways all inspire me.

My Process

The body of work entitled ‘Discovery Gallery’ was the first departure into the world of Dusty Adventure. It was really an experiment to see what I wanted to . I will release a new series of work every year in November.

The flow of creativity usually starts with an idea of a place to visit and what kind of photos I want to create. Often times by seeing what holes are missing in previous work. Other times I am drawn to specific geographic features or certain types of landscapes. I try to balance the work with multiple destinations. I often find myself revisiting these places to elaborate on the statements that I’ve already made through my photos. After a trip I come back with thousands of photos that need to be looked at and criticized to extract the best images. This process takes the longest.

Every year around November I release a new gallery. Prints become available for purchase starting in December.
